Dover Quartet
Named one of the greatest string quartets of the past 100 years by BBC Music Magazine, the two-time Grammy-nominated Dover Quartet returns with an exciting program that connects new work by Emmy-winning American Indian composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha
Tate with Dvořák’s beloved American quartet. Tate, a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma, composes music that has been described as “rich, provocative and moving” by the New York Times and “lusty and vivid” by San Francisco Classical Voice. His Abokkoli Taloowa (Woodland Songs) is paired with his orchestration of Pura Fé’s layered and rhythmic work Rattle Songs. Both of Tate’s works are West Coast premieres and Cal Performances co-commissions.
This event is part of Cal Performances’ Illuminations: “Fractured History” programming for the 2024–25 season.

All ticketholders for this performance are invited to join us in Hertz Hall for a pre-performance Q&A from 2:15–2:45pm. Bay Area-based Native American dancer and scholar Eddie Madril will be interviewing Dover violinist Joel Link and cellist Camden Shaw The Q&A will discuss the quartet’s program and its relation to Cal Performances’ Illuminations: “Fractured History” theme.
